This is the Final Part of Unit 1B

This Unit goes over Significant Figures and their Rules

You can call them:

Rules of Sig Figs

  1. All nonzero digits are significant
  2. Sandwiched zeros are always sig
  3. All leading zeros are never sig
  4. Trailing zeros are only sig if:
    1. Follow a Sig Fig
    2. Folow a Decimal
  5. When multiplying/dividing the answer is rounded to the lowest # of Sig figs given
  6. When +/-, round answer to the lowest # of decimal places given

Density Calculations

D = M/V

Mass is measured in grams

Volume is measured in milliliters / cm

g/mL or g/cm^3

V = l*w*h

% error = ( | accepted - experimental | / accepted) *100

%error = (|a-e|/a) *100

|a-e| = NO NEGATIVE VALUE
